Jan 3, 1873, John Collier Tucker, RN, formerly an Acting Mate in HMS Highflyer and Lieutenant in the Naval Brigade during the Crimean War, committed suicide by throwing himself into the sea on his voyage home from India. His probable motive was the continuing affair between his wife, Catherine Lucy Barnham, and Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk.
