Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, Lieutenant Howard Craufurd Elphinstone, Royal Engineers. "On the night following the unsuccessful attack on the Redan, Lieutenant Elphinstone commanded a party of volunteers who searched for the scaling ladders left behind after the repulse. While performing this task he also conducted a search close to the enemy for wounded men, 20 of whom he rescued and took back to the trenches."

Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, Private John Joseph Sims, 34th Regt. After the regiment had retired into the trenches from the assault on the Redan, Private Sims went out under very heavy fire in broad daylight and brought in wounded soldiers outside the trenches.

Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, Colour-Sergeant Peter Leitch, Royal Engineers. After approaching the Redan with the leading ladders, he formed a caponniere across the ditch as well as a ramp by fearlessly tearing down gabions from the parapet and placing and filling them until he was disabled from wounds.

Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, Lieutenant William Hope, 7th Regt. He went to the assistance of the adjutant, who was lying outside the trenches badly wounded. Having found that it was impossible to move him, even with the help of four men, he ran back across the open ground under very heavy fire from the enemy batteries, and procured a stretcher to bring the wounded officer in.

Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, deed by Lieutenant Gerald Graham, Royal Engineers, and Sapper John Perie. The pair showed determined gallantry at the head of a ladder party at the assault on the Redan at Sebastopol. Lieutenat Graham also went out on numerous occasions to bring in wounded officers and men. Perie volunteered to go with the lieutenant to help bring in a wounded sailor lying in the open, even though he was himself suffering from a musket wound in the side.

Notification: Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, after the doomed assault o... @ Sat 18 Jun 2022 16:30 - 17:30 (EEST) (On This Day)

Victoria Cross: June 18, 1855, after the doomed assault on the Redan, deed by Lieutenant Henry James Raby, Boatswain's Mate Curtis and Captain of the Forecastle John Taylor, all of the Naval Brigade ladder parties. A soldier of the 57th Regt, who had been wounded in both legs, was observed sitting up and calling for help. At once the three left the shelter of the trench and ran forward a distance of 70 yards, across open ground, through heavy gunfire and succeeded in carrying the wounded man to safety.

Victoria Cross: second of two citations for Sergeant George Gardiner, 57th Regt. June 18, 1855, during the attack on the Redan he himself remained and encouraged others to remain in the holes made by the explosions of the shells, and whence they were able to keep up a continuous fire until their ammunition was exhausted, and the enemy cleared away from the parapet.

Victoria Cross: Second of three citations for Captain William Peel RN of the Naval Brigade.
