Victoria Cross: Nov 5, 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman, Lieutenant Mark Walker, 30th Regt, jumped over a wall in the face of two battalions of Russian Infantry which were marching towards it. This act was to encourage the men, by example, to advance against such odds - which they did and succeeded in driving back both battalions.

Victoria Cross: Nov 5, 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman, Brevet Major Charles Russell, Grenadier Guards, offered to dislodge a party of Russians from the Sandbag Battery if anyone would follow him. A sergeant and two privates (Anthony Palmer) - one of whom was subsequently killed - were the first to volunteer. The party met much resistance and several times seemed to be on the point of annihilation but their skill, especially with the bayonet, finally brought success. Major Russell himself fought with great valour and in single combat wrenched the rifle out of the grasp of a powerful Russian.

Victoria Cross: Nov 5, 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman, Lord Henry Hugh Manvers Percy, Grenadier Guards, found himself, with many men of various regiments who had charged too far, nearly surrounded by the Russians, and without ammunition. By his knowledge of the ground, although wounded, he extricated these men, and, passing under a heavy fire from the Russians then in the Sandbag Battery, brought them safe to where ammunition was to be obtained. He thereby saved about fifty men and enabled them to renew the combat.
