Victoria Cross: Asst Surgeon William Henry Thomas Sylvester, 23rd Foot, on 8 September 1855, near the Redan, he went with a corporal (Robert Shields) to the aid of an officer who was mortally wounded and remained with him, dressing his wounds, in a most dangerous and exposed situation. Again, on 18 September this officer was at the front, under heavy fire, attending the wounded.

Victoria Cross: Capt Charles Henry Lumley, 97th Regiment, on 8 September 1855, at the assault on the Redan, he was among the first inside the work, where he was immediately attacked by three Russian gunners who were reloading a field piece. He shot two of them with his revolver when he was knocked down by a stone which stunned him for a moment, but on recovery, he drew his sword and was in the act of cheering his men on, when he was severely wounded in the mouth.

Victoria Cross: Asst Surgeon Thomas Egerton Hale, 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment of Foot, Firstly, for remaining with an officer who was dangerously wounded, (Captain H. M. Jones, 7th Regiment), in the fifth parallel, on 8th September, 1855, when all the men in the immediate neighbourhood retreated, excepting Lieutenant W. Hope and Dr. Hale; and for endeavouring.to rally the men, in conjunction with Lieutenant W. Hope, 7th Royal Fusiliers. Secondly. For having, on 8th September, 1855, after the regiments had retired into the trenches, cleared the most advanced sap of the wounded, and carried, into the sap, under a heavy fire, several wounded men from the open ground, being assisted by Sgt Charles Fisher, 7th Royal Fusiliers.

Victoria Cross: Captain Gronow Davis, RA, on 8 September 1855, commanded the spiking party in the attack on the Redan with great coolness and gallantry. Afterwards he saved the life of a lieutenant of the 39th Regiment of Foot by jumping over the parapet of a sap and going some distance across the open, under murderous fire, to help carry the wounded man to cover. He also carried several other wounded soldiers to safety.

Reminder: Victoria Cross: Bombadier Daniel Cambridge, RA, on 8 Sept... @ Annually from 14:30 to 15:30 on September 8 (On This Day)

Victoria Cross: Bombadier Daniel Cambridge, RA, on 8 September 1855 at Sebastopol, volunteered for the spiking party on the assault on the Redan. He remained with the party after being severely wounded twice, but had refused to leave until the general retirement was ordered, and even then he repeatedly went back into the open to carry wounded men to safety. In the latter part of the day, he sprang forward to bring in another wounded man. While carrying the helpless infantryman to the safety of the trench Daniel was seen to stagger. Subsequently Daniel was found to have been shot a third time, in his right jaw, and, incapacitated, he took no further part in the action.
